Tony Moan

Tony Moan // Senior Engineer

“Perhaps I played an instrument in my former life” muses Tony Moan when discussing how his love of music as a youngster has morphed into a recording career spanning more than 40 years. Amazingly, Tony's first job was at Eldred Stebbing’s original recording studio in Saratoga Ave, and he is currently into his ‘third tenure’ at Stebbing Recording Centre.

After several years learning the ropes with Eldred, Tony relocated to London in 1969 and spent a period working at the famed Abbey Rd Studios. A handful of Tony’s clients refer to him as the '5th Beatle' – he was fortunate enough to spend time with John, Paul, George and Ringo during the recording of their Abbey Rd LP.

Over the years Tony has honed his specialist skills in analogue recording and counts Split Enz, Kenny Rodgers, comedians Benny Hill and Sir Harry Secombe as well as Tama Waipara amongst his prolific clientele. He cites Steely Dan, The Beatles, John Legend and local jingle composer Murray Grindlay as influences and in his off-time enjoys a spot of Ten-Pin Bowling.
